As part of my personal growth and independence seeking, the opportunity to cook has appeared/been thrust upon me. Today's meal I cooked myself was rather gross. I do not blame my cooking (of course not, I'm such a talented chef) but instead the tomato sauce/paste I used. Made my meal taste vinegary... Blah.

At Susana's house :)
I am now at my permanent home stay with a very nice lady, Susana De La Rosa (nice name isn't it?)
This home is in the wee city of Lujan, which is about 20 minutes from the city of Mendoza. I have two or three friends that live really close :)
As for my lodgings, I have my own very nice room which I am greatly enjoying and a bathroom too (with one of those special bum cleaners)
I've used the pool here once and it was quite a pleasure. It had been a hot, hot day and twilight was coming. I submerged myself in the cool waters and played merrily till almost dark. That's how i like my swimming sessions :D
There was a somewhat humorous occurance whilst i was bathing in the pool. All the other neighbours were having family around and playing in their pools while listening to music. It was a combination of mainly western popular hits such as "sexy and I know it" and Katy Perry's song "the one that got away". Well, "S&M" was playing loudly but suddenly stopped. I then heard the children the next house over yelling "musica, musica" to encourage the neighbours to play their music again. However they didn't and I had the pleasure of listening to the children sing their own version of "S&M" which was hilarious as they were all making up words they thought sounded like English ones. It reminded me of what I did as a child with Japanese theme songs. :)

Fun in the sun?
I'm starting to develop an awkward tan. One part of me is celebrating saying "Woo hoo Savannah, you can actually tan!!! I knew you could do it!! Fiesta!!" and the other (more sensible side of the brain) is screaming "AAAHH!!!! dear God what have you done?!?"
I say this for many reasons. For one, early this morning I stumbled upon a YouTube video "Dear 16 year old me" and it's about melanoma. Please do watch it if you haven't already as even I, a sun expert (lol not really) learned a lot watching it.
This clip reminded me of why I stay out of the sun and made me feel somewhat redeemed as the sole White person in a sea of brown people. You know, it's hard being white, it really is. You have to be a strong person to refuse the status quo because everywhere I go ( haha, especially here in South America) people sometimes look at me with morbid curiosity.
People often ask, "are all people from New Zealand white? Do they all wear hats?" of course the answer is no, very much no. Now I'm not hating on tanners, I'm jealous of your ability to brown, but at the same time we must all realise the dangerous of the sun. A tan is not the sign of a healthy glow, it is the sign that you have damaged your skin. Skin never forgets damage and now I have to take extra care of my awkwardly tanned forearms ;(
With this in mind, don't freak out, most people have a higher tolerance for sun than me and we all have skin damage, it's a fact of living. All I recommend is watch that YouTube clip, do a wee bit of research and make your own conclusions :)
(btw, the tan's not so bad mum and dad so don't freak out. I attach a photo although you can't see much but I assure you, I am somewhat tanned)

Makin´ Flan
Susana my awesome host mummy taught me how to make flan :D
It´s a French dish :D
It's good to first caramalise sugar on the stove

After this, hold the bowl at an angle so the liquid caramel covers much of the bowl. Then wet the back of the bowl with running cold water (but do not get water in the bowl or wetting the caramel). This is to cool the caramel and should cause it to crack and make noises.
Then separate the whites of the eggs from the gold and whip the whites. Use about 8

After this add the sugar (holy hell it´s alot, about 2 teaspoons per egg), egg yellows, vanilla essence and about a litre of milk.

The amazing beach
Viña del Mar meaning "Vineyard by the Sea", is one of Chile's most popular tourist attractions. It has long sandy white beaches and crowds of colourful people.
The beach was a bit wild in Vina. I noticed after a while the sand in such powerful waves were abrasive to my skin and I returned to the beach with red, somewhat sensitive legs.
Lautaro my good friend at the beach :)
